More InfoBe part of this historical event as we respond to Andy Warhol's quote, "I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want to own." Join artists of all styles and mediums, from all over the world in the grass-roots development of a museum dedicated to to the Warholian lineage in art, that will be a public center for an inter-active dialogue on the subject of Warhol's intent in transmitting his lineage to his proteges, Jean-Michel Basquait, Keith Haring and their living peers and proteges. With the loss all three artists lives, so young, how do living artists continue Warhol's transmission and how did the passing of Warhol's two protegees effect the Warholian lineage? Based on the Keith Haring maxim, "Art is for Everyone!", this event is open to any artist from the child artist to the well established! Participate! Attend! Spread the Word!

How it works: You submit one to three portraits in your individual artist style of the physical likeness of the three artists, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat or a homage that exposes their passion and soul of one or all of the artists in a medium of your choice.

Why? In addition to celebrating the lives of these modern masters and the impact these artists had on our culture, the first show is a determination to foster the mentor-disciple relationship in art. Let's pass on our knowledge to future generations, seeking out the next Caravaggio, Da Vinci, Picasso, Warhol, Haring or Basquiat of our time! Let's seek our own mentors and successors in the precious journey of transmitting art and knowledge to and from generations!

Why Hot Springs National Park? This centrally located arts town was chosen because of it's unique distinction of being a quickly emerging art community surrounded by a National Park. While maintaining it's diverse and cosmopolitan feel it is an up and coming eco-travel and healing destination as well and a perfect getaway for artists and those interested in the arts and nature! As preserved land, Hot Springs directly responds to Warhol's quote on "having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art you can own!"

How? Upon completion of your three portraits you bring or ship two of your three portraits to MENTOR DISCIPLE (316 Park Avenue, Hot Springs National Park, State of Arkansas, USA, 71901). Submissions received by September 17th, 2011 will be part of our historical grand opening show, Andy, Jean-Michel and Keith. In keeping one of the three portraits for yourself, to sell or make part of your community we spread this event beyond the confines of The MENTOR DISCIPLE Museum and make this an truly international event . You price both of the other two portraits that you ship or bring to MENTOR DISCIPLE. Of the two portraits you submit to MENTOR DISCIPLE, the first of the two portraits that sell you retain 100% of the proceeds from the sale to keep or if you wish and are of means, donate to art projects for young people in your own community. The other portrait that does not sell first is retained and becomes the property of MENTOR DISCIPLE and a contender to remain in the MENTOR DISCIPLE permanent collection honoring the bond between Andy Warhol and his proteges. If you only submit one portrait or homage to the show then if sold you will receive 50% of the proceeds from the sale. In addition this entire project and all works submitted will be cataloged and documented.

While creating your art or attending the event as a living artist or as a viewer here are some questions to ponder...

What was Andy Warhol attempting to teach his young disciples before they all three passed away from this life?

What was Andy Warhol's cultural guidance to us in choosing the African American and Puerto Rican artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat as the only other artist that Warhol ever extensively collaborated with?

How did Andy Warhol's encouragement of Keith Haring's populist view of art become an extension of where he was going with his own evolution as an artist?

How will art change in a less climate controlled and greener world? A world with more open windows, fresher air and more natural light or powered by alternative energy? How would have Andy, Jean-Michel and Keith responded and how will you?

In a male dominated lineage, how will female artists respond, react or take hold of the evolution of the Warholian lineage?

Are community artists, the pioneers on the forefront of revitalizing their own neighborhoods with art and culture, the new art stars of the Warholian lineage?

  • Mentor Disciple should be called Dominance Submission. None of the people who work in The Gallery are Artists and they are all just a bunch of over the top artistically ignorant drama queens going on an insane power trip with Gallery Artists like myself that they came to asking for help. They don't have contracts or insurance and this is the most unprofessional Gallery I have ever dealt with.
