2011 Art Gallery Reviews for Hot Springs, Arkansas

Alison Parsons Gallery - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Cooperative

Artists - 0 Stars: The owner Alison Parsons' sister (Lori Arnold) is Richard Gipe's Executive Director aka Puppet Queen of MOCA. MOCA steals Art from Artist that were dumb enough to trust them with it and then resells it behind closed doors while claiming that it is still in drayage. Just google "MOCA Scam and see what comes up. Her sister (Lori Arnold) is a compulsive liar and a Con Artist that tries to pose as a sweet old lady that couldn't hurt a fly to cover her tracks, so I'm going to presume the nut didn't fall very far from the tree and recommend that you don't trust this woman.

Patrons - 0 Stars: I did mention that it's a Cooperative didn't I?

American Art Gallery - City Rating: 4 Stars / U.S. Rating: 4 Stars

Type: Commercial

Artists - 4 Stars: I've heard nothing but good things from Artist that have been in this Gallery.

Patrons - 4 Stars: Two words "Thomas Kinkade". On the upstairs level is The Thomas Kinkade Gallery. I would bypass everything else and go straight to that if I were you. His personal life may be questionable, but his Art is amazing. You will trip balls off of the eyecandy in this Gallery.

                                                                        *

Blue Moon - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Cooperative

Artists - 0 Stars Do you really want to be in a Gallery that charges a Wall Fee?

Patrons - 0 Stars: I got two words "Thad Flenniken".

                                                                        *

Gallery 726 - City Rating: 2 1/2 Stars / U.S. Rating: 2 Stars

Type: Cooperative

Artists -Available soon.

Patrons - 2 1/2 Stars: It's an ugly Gallery. I feel like I'm going to a Dentist Office every time I walk in there. They do have some amazing Pottery though thanks to Janet Donnangelo.

                                                                        *

Gallerie 801 - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Vanity

Artists - 0 Stars: It's a Vanity Gallery that cold calls Artist to sell them exposure.

Patrons - 0 Stars: Vanity Galleries usually have pretty sorry Art because real Artist won't pay to be seen.

                                                                        *

Legacy  - City Rating: 1 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Vanity

Artists - 0 Stars: This is a Vanity Gallery/Boiler Room. If you get a call from these people then hang up.Never trust somebody that is cold calling you asking for money to promote your Art.

Patrons - 2 Stars: The Gallery is well decorated, but most of The Art leaves much to be desired, but what do you expect? The Artist were so desperate that they were willing to pay to be seen.

                                                                        *
Mentor Disciple - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Scam Gallery/Museum

Artists: 0 Stars: They want you to donate Art to be part of a Permanent Collection with no Insurance or Contracts. This has been the worst experience that I have ever had working with a Gallery. They are all a bunch of disloyal, unprofessional bullies that thrive on drama. Infact I have seen Yard Sales at Trailer Parks that were more professional than this "Museum".

Patrons: 0 Star: I can't tell if this is an Art Museum or a Gay Bar. They give a new meaning to the Term "Art Fag".

                                                                        *

M.O.C.A.(The Museum of Contemporary Art) - City Rating: 0 / U.S. Rating: 0

Type: Museum (obstensibly)

Artists - 0 Stars: I have heard countless horror stories from Artist that said that they have had their Art stolen by this so called Museum never to be seen again. Richard Gipe has a warehouse of Art that was sent to be in this Gallery that was never hung on the walls.

Patrons - 0 Stars: I'd save my five dollars if I was you.

                                                                        *

Prodigious Art LTD - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Vanity

Artists - 0 Stars: This is a Vanity Gallery but it was so poor looking that I wanted to call it a humble Gallery. Don't waste your money on this disorganized poorly decorated embarrassment.

Patrons - 0 Stars: I bet Pamela Rawls over at The Poets Loft thanks her lucky stars every night that Prodigious Art LTD came to town so she didn't haft to have the worst Gallery in Hot Springs anymore... now shes just a close second. It feels good to be better than somebody else for a change doesn't it Pam?

Star Gallery - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Cooperative

Artists - 0 Stars: This Gallery is full of hacks that pay to be seen and take turns buying eachother's Art, but hey at least they're selling Art.

Patrons - 0 Stars: I don't like Galleries that have little kids running around and I feel that this Gallery while being an interesting experiment is trying to be too many things at once. I couldn't tell if this place was a Clothing Store, an Art Studio, a Music Venue, or an Art Gallery. This is just one persons opinion but to me having so many different business themes is tacky to say the least. I mean what's next "Tony's Pizza Shop/Art Gallery/Life Insurance Agency"? Did I mention that I hate abstract Art? Any idiot can make abstract Art and this Gallery is packed full of abstract Art. I don't see this Gallery of Pseudo Intellectual, Wannabe Artist, Hippy, Liberal, Douchebags surviving the year. The only thing nice I can say about them is that there are worse Galleries in Town.

The Art Church - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Cooperative

Artists - 0 Star: That depends if you are a regular person with no Artistic Ability yet want to be seen in a Gallery anyways then these are the people that you need to talk to.

Patrons - 0 Star: When I first came upon this "Gallery" I thought that it was a Church in a Junk Yard. Then when I got closer I realized the Junk was intended to be interpreted as Art. To be quite honest I have seen better Art in Starving Artist shows than what the best of this Gallery has to offer. If you are a serious Art Connoisseur then don't waste your time on this Gallery unless you're in the mood to laugh at degenerate Art.

                                                                       *

The Fine Art's Center - City Rating: 0 Stars / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Cooperative

Artists - 0 Stars: I've spoken to their Executive Director Patricia Collins and I find her to be a dispicable human being that has an inability to communicate without lying.

Patrons: 0 Stars: Their Art is shit.
                                                                        *

The Gallery 404-B - City Rating: 4 Stars / U.S. Rating: 3 1/2 Stars

Type: Commercial

Artists - 4 Stars: The owner Chuck Dodson has done more for Artist than any other Man in this Town.

Patrons: 4 Stars: It's the best Gallery that I've ever seen anybody operate out of their own home. Whether you are a Tourist or a local this Gallery is a must see.

                                                                        *

The Hot Springs Art Gallery - City Rating: 2 Stars / U.S. Rating 1 Stars

Type: City

Artists - 2 Stars: Since it is a City Gallery it's free to get into, but the fact that your Art will be hanging next to Hot Springs Middle school's 5th Grade Art Class may preclude your ability to sell anything.

Patrons - 2 Stars: To be perfectly honest it depends on what day you go. I've seen them exhibit world class Artist like Xiu Lung Hua, but I have also seen Art there that was so deplorable that I am ashamed to have this Gallery as part of my Curriculum Vita.

                                                                        *

The Linda Palmer Gallery - City Rating: 3 1/2 Stars / U.S. Rating: 3 Stars

Type: Commercial

Artists - 4 Stars: Linda Palmer seems to take pretty good care of herself.

Patrons - 3 Stars: She's an incredible Artist, but the Gallery is very small. I walked in the back and the drayage area/studio was almost as big as the Gallery itself.

                                                                        *

The Poets Loft - City Rating: 1 Star / U.S. Rating: 0 Stars

Type: Nonprofit

Artists - 0 Stars: You have a better chance at selling your Art in a yard sale than in this hack Gallery.

Patrons - 1 Star (Only because of the free drinks, otherwise they would get a Zero): The Art (and I use the term Art very loosely here) is beyond hackish. You can tell as soon as you walk in that the owner is some trust fund baby that owns the lot the Gallery is on and doesn't care about making money so long as she can get exposure for her friends and family. Drink the free wine, laugh at the degenerate Art, and leave so you can go check out a real Art Gallery while you're in town.

                                                                       *

The Tin Grizzly - City Rating 4 Stars / U.S. Rating: 3 1/2 Stars

Type: Commercial

Artists - 4 Stars: The owner Ted Meadows is a really cool guy and the Art is flying off the walls. If you make Native American or Wildlife Art then you need I repeat NEED in this Gallery.

Patrons - 3 1/2: I couldn't tell if it was an Art Gallery or a Hunting Lodge when I first walked in. It's very unique and the theme seems to be working quite well for them.

                                                                       *

Xu International Art Gallery - City Rating: 4 Stars / U.S. Rating: 3 1/2 Stars

Type: Commercial

Artists - 4 Stars: The Xu Lung Hua owns this Gallery!

Patrons - 4 Stars: Did I mention that Xu Lung Hua owns this Gallery?
