Daniel Damascus Kimery Reviews Freddie Francis's "Craze"

I found this DVD Collection that has some Dario Argento Films in it from The 70's(Deep Red, Cat O'Nine Tails) called "Slashers Collection". This movie is so rare and obscure that there isn't even a video for it's trailer on youtube. Jack Palance plays an Antique Shop/Art Gallery Owner named Neal Mottram. He worships The Evil African God Chuku. He makes Human Sacrifices to Chuku in exchange for receiving his blessing as an Art Dealer The Movie starts off with a circle of Cultist sitting around a fire in Neal's Basement. A Black Female Cultist gets naked then starts dancing around The Altar of Chuku. upon completing her dance Neal hands her a knife then she cuts herself as a blood sacrifice to Chuku. After their little unerground church service a woman runs in threatening to expose him, there is a big scuffle, he injures her, then he takes her by the head and impales her her throat on Chuku's Spear. Next thing you know he is selling Art like it's drugs so the light bulb goes off in his head and he starts killing people left and right as sacrifices to Chuku. What is weird is that with each kill his fortunes improve with the exception of a Police Detective hounding him at every turn. It isn't even revealed until the end of the movie that his God wasn't really blessing him it was just all in his head but what is crazy is until the last twenty minutes or so you actually believe that Chuku is protecting and rewarding him. I give this movie 2 Stars because I think it would have been a lot better if the version that I saw wasn't so grainy.
